Position Summary

The Industrial Electrician builds, wires, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical systems for custom automation, robotic cells, and industrial machinery. This position works from electrical drawings and schematics to complete control-panel wiring, machine wiring, device installation, checkout, and build-floor troubleshooting. The ideal candidate takes pride in neat, accurate work and enjoys solving practical electrical problems as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Responsibilities

Electrical Assembly & Machine Wiring

  • Build and wire industrial control panels, junction boxes, operator stations, and electrical subassemblies from drawings and schematics.
  • Install and terminate sensors, motors, drives, safety devices, disconnects, control devices, and field wiring on custom machinery.
  • Route, label, and secure cables, wireways, flexible conduit, and related electrical hardware using professional workmanship standards.
  • Verify point-to-point wiring, terminations, component installation, and device identification before system checkout.

Testing & Troubleshooting

  • Use meters and appropriate test equipment to diagnose wiring, power, I/O, safety-circuit, and device issues.
  • Support electrical checkout, energization, machine testing, and correction of build-floor issues.
  • Work with Electrical Design, Controls, Robotics, and Mechanical team members to resolve problems efficiently.
  • Document redlines, field changes, and as-built conditions so project documentation remains accurate.

Quality & Safety

  • Perform work in accordance with drawings, applicable electrical requirements, I2T standards, and safe work practices.
  • Take ownership of wiring quality, panel organization, labeling, termination integrity, and overall professional appearance.
  • Inspect completed work, identify discrepancies, and correct deficiencies before downstream testing.
  • Maintain organized tools, materials, workstations, and electrical build areas.

Teamwork & Continuous Improvement

  • Coordinate daily work with engineers, fabricators, project teams, and shop leadership.
  • Communicate material shortages, drawing questions, risks, and schedule concerns early.
  • Share technical knowledge and support the development of less-experienced team members.
  • Recommend improvements to wiring methods, panel layouts, documentation, safety, tooling, and build efficiency.

Success in the First 12 Months

  • Establish a reputation for safe, neat, accurate, and dependable electrical work.
  • Independently complete assigned panel and machine-wiring tasks from schematics with minimal rework.
  • Troubleshoot common electrical and device issues methodically and communicate findings clearly.
  • Support successful equipment checkout and on-time project completion through reliable execution.
  • Improve capability in industrial controls, machine safety, documentation, and automation-system integration.

Qualifications

Required

  • High school diploma, technical school training, apprenticeship, or equivalent practical experience.
  • Approximately 3 years of industrial electrical, control-panel, machine-wiring, or related experience.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, panel layouts, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Experience with industrial control panels, sensors, relays, power distribution, motors, drives, and safety devices.
  • Ability to use electrical hand tools, meters, and test equipment safely and effectively.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills, attention to detail, and commitment to safe work practices.

Preferred

  • Journeyman electrician certification or recognized electrical apprenticeship training.
  • Experience with custom machinery, industrial automation, robotics, PLC-controlled equipment, or machine commissioning.
  • Familiarity with NFPA 70E, NFPA 79, the National Electrical Code, UL 508A, lockout/tagout, and industrial safety practices.
  • Experience with industrial networks, variable-frequency drives, servos, safety circuits, or panel fabrication.

What Makes Someone Successful at I2T

  • Takes ownership of wiring accuracy, safety, neatness, and follow-through.
  • Reads schematics carefully, verifies circuits, and avoids assumptions that can create rework or risk.
  • Troubleshoots methodically and communicates findings, drawing conflicts, and material needs early.
  • Works effectively with engineers, fabricators, and other technicians while remaining accountable for assigned work.
  • Balances code and design requirements with practical build, maintenance, and service considerations.

Working Conditions

Work is performed primarily on an active electrical assembly, fabrication, and machine-build shop floor. The position regularly requires standing and walking for extended periods; bending, kneeling, reaching, climbing ladders or platforms, working inside or around equipment, and handling tools, wire, cable, and electrical components. Work may occur near energized equipment during controlled testing and troubleshooting and must follow established electrical-safety and lockout/tagout practices. The environment may include noise, moving equipment, metalworking activity, temperature variation, and overhead lifting operations. Required PPE may include safety glasses, hearing protection, steel-toe footwear, voltage-rated PPE, and other protection appropriate to the task. Occasional overtime or adjusted hours may be required to support project deadlines and equipment checkout. Customer-site travel is limited and is not a primary responsibility of the position. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable qualified individuals to perform essential job functions.

Benefits

  • Competitive compensation and performance-based bonus opportunities.
  • Medical, dental, and vision insurance; 401(k) with company match; paid time off and company holidays; life and disability insurance.
  • Company-paid technical training and professional development.
  • Opportunity to work on diverse automation and fabrication projects, develop broad hands-on experience, and grow with I2T.
